Here To Grow

This history-based booklet began with my family's plantation in Georgia. I had this idea that when my viewers held the booklet, they would be able to “step onto our plantation.”

Mission:

I was tasked to create a 12-page brochure to teach a set of young art students about the different print processes. The final brochure was to be printed in color (front and back) and was to be saddle-stitched. I needed to work with the CMYK color limitation and include bleeds across the brochure.

Concept:

I started with the idea of telling the story of my family. We have been in the business of growing trees on our plantation for several generations. Some of those trees go off to become telephone poles or Amazon™ boxes. I wanted to give my reader a look into what goes on behind the scenes in the papermaking process.

Production

All of the visuals for this brochure tie directly back into my plantation. The cover is actually from a rubbing of a tree that my great-grandfather planted in the early ‘20s. I wanted to be able to show all of the exciting aspects of my tree farm in either the illustrations or the photos.

The photos were taken by me, and as you can see, I used the longitude and latitude of the location of the tree, so you can see for yourself where my heritage first began.
